Eighties
Power suits, dress for success,
and the conservative preppie look were everywhere. Fashionable brand
names like Izod, Nike, and Adidas were the rage in street styles
like rap, Valley Girl and Flash Dance. In couture, Karl Lagerfeld
revives the house of Chanel. Other designers included Anne Klein,
Perry Ellis, Vivian Westwood, Norma Kamali, Jean Paul Gaultier,
Moschino, and John Galliano.

The 80'S and 90's : Power Dressing to...
20th Century Fashion: The 80s and 90s - Power Dressing to Sportswear
by Clare Lomas
This book is part of a new series that explores 20th century
fashion decade by decade. Intended as a quick overview for students,
they are also great for beginners. Each book in the set offers
color photos, a timeline of people, history and fashion, and
additional resources. This particular volume does a great job
on fads from the eighties, with just ten pages from the not
so far away nineties.
Surfers, Soulies, Skinheads and Skaters: Subcultural Styles
From the Forties to the Nineties
by Amy De La Haye
This colorful book is designed like a multimedia presentation,
with each page reflecting the examined fashion period. It coincided
with a museum exhibition of streetwear, and it does a good job
of including a wide range of underground looks spanning several
decades.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High
This classic film starring Sean Penn is still fashionably
funny and captures many of the eighties fads and attitudes in
humor and music. Donžt forget to check out the checkerboard
Vans slip in sneakers that were seen everywhere following this
movie's release.
Flashdance
This popular film launched what would be known as the flashdance
look, workout wear with sweatshirts adjusted to your liking
through deep off the shoulder cuts or slashes in the bodice.
